Short Hair Or Not?The hair, I didn’t love
Do you ever wish you had a different hair type, or hair length, or hair color? Silly question, right? I mean, who doesn’t? Well, maybe a few people don’t. But a few months into my hair journey, I could kill for 3c hair. Its curls, its bounce, and of course, the seemingly easy wash and go’s had me going…
For a very long time, I didn’t even know what to do with my hair. It had a talent for shrinking, and I couldn’t find a way to appreciate its uniqueness. And because I didn’t love it, I always wanted someone else’s texture. So I decided that I was going to grow my hair to tailbone length. I mean longer hair will bring all the boys (and hair lovers) to the yard, who cared about how healthy it was?

Na na na, can’t touch this
After 4 years, my hair was finally waist length, and the world couldn’t have been a better place. Except that now, I was out of school, and now my daily routines had changed. I mean, a few months working a new job, and bam!! I lost track of my whole hair care habits, taking care of my hair became a hurdle. And of course, my hair long, healthy hair began to deteriorate.
After about two years, I decided to start over. I mean, I had grown it to waist length, right? I had already proved to myself and others that it could be done, so obviously, I could do it again. So I got the big chop, Yup, I know, I still can’t believe that I dared to do it.
Since I had had short hair to long healthy hair to long but unhealthy hair, I realized that nothing beats healthy hair, regardless of its length.

Back to the goal of this post, Should you cut your hair?
I assume you’re trying to figure out if cutting your hair is worth it. And I’m here to let you know that whatever you choose to do, I’ll be rooting for you. So why do you want to cut your hair? As someone who’s been there twice, I’ll share my experience of having to start over with you!
Number one! Nothing beats the feeling of fresh air on your scalp. I mean, I could go to the beach without worrying about how moisture would mess up my twist outs that took about 12 hours to get done. I could go right into the water and have fun without thinking about the effect of the salty water on my hair and all that.
The 12 hours I mentioned I needed to get my hair done, I didn’t need it anymore with short hair. All I needed was about 5 minutes to get my hair done. And yes, I used a lot fewer hair products. I mean, short hair only requires so much. Plus, you get to fall in love with your hair again and learn how to manage it better. Of course, that’s if you put in the time.

The Cons?
There’s that awkward length stage when your hair is too long to be worn as an afro and rather short to be worn as an updo. There was even a time people said I looked like Huey. With long hair, even though the routines took more time and lots of energy, I had tons of styles I could wear out.

My favorite hair length?
This is hard! To be honest, I loved having long hair, especially because of all the attention it got me. But, I think I enjoyed my hair more after cutting it. Because I had already grown my hair out before and I knew it was possible to get to waist length again. My prior hair care experience made it a lot easier. Plus, this time, I wasn’t so obsessed about how long my hair was. So, I played around with my hair more and focused on its health. In my previous hair journey, I did a length check every two days. Lol. I couldn’t wait to have long hair, and my hair was determined to take its time.
